Polls are live in Johnson County's "I Voted" sticker contest as the community decides which two local designs will be distributed during this November's general election.

The online polls feature five youth designs and five designs in the adult category. One winner will be chosen from each category and stickers will be distributed to each precinct in Johnson County this fall.

Voting is open through July 31 at https://johnsoncountyiowa.gov/stickervote.

In the youth division, one sticker features the state bird, the American Goldfinch, presiding over a landscape of rolling green hills, a bright, yellow sun and two tornadoes. Another design is of a mouse waving an American flag and donning a shirt with a bald eagle and AMERICA! in capital letters.

The American Goldfinch and bald eagle again appear on the adult side of the contest.

In a separate red and white themed design dotted with blue stars, a frog dons sunglasses and what appears to be a tank top and shorts below the contest's slogan. In perhaps the simplest of the 10 finalists, an American flag hangs in a peaceful scene along the side of a barn.

Artists lean on "I voted" theme

There were a few rules for artists to keep in mind when designing their stickers.

Designs were required to include the words "I Voted," though artists are free to include additional language, as long as it remains politically neutral. Artwork had to be original, not generated from AI or pulled from stock images.

Artists were required to create their design within a 2" diameter circle.

A panel of Johnson County employees chose the top five designs in each category.

The winning stickers will be printed and made available at all polling places throughout Johnson County before and during the 2024 general election on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
