According to a preliminary report, an EF-1 tornado touched down at 4:05 p.m. approximately 8.5 miles northeast of Gladwin. It was on the ground for 22 minutes, covering a little over 10 miles.

The tornado cut a path approximately 200 yards wide and reached peak wind speeds of 90 miles per hour.

News 8 affiliate WPBN-TV reported there have been no deaths or injuries tied to the storm. The NWS told the Detroit News that tornado warnings were issued for the area before the storm touched down. They described it as a “rain-wrapped twister” — which means the tornado would have been hard to see because of the heavy rains.

The NWS says a more detailed report is expected to be filed today.
