NWS upgrades to Winter Storm Warning for Jefferson, Lewis counties
WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – Both Jefferson and Lewis counties are in line for another blast of winter weather.
The National Weather Service in Buffalo has upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning for the two counties until 4 p.m. Friday, December 6. Both Jefferson and Lewis counties were under a Winter Storm Watch, but that was superseded by the warning issued earlier this morning.
How much snow did Northern New York get this weekend?
The alerts said that heavy snow is expected with total snow accumulations 10 to 18 inches across the higher terrain of the Tug Hill Plateau. A total of four to eight inches has been forecasted across lower elevations.
Winds gusting as high as 45 mph will produce considerable blowing and drifting snow for the Eastern Lake Ontario region.
The NWS said that travel will be very difficult and areas of blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. These winds could also cause power outages.
The hazardous conditions will impact the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning and evening commutes.
St. Lawrence County is forecasted to get less snow, but is still under a Winter Weather Advisory until 1 a.m. Friday. The NWS is Burlington, Vt. forecasts three to eight inches, but some locations could get more.
There could also be multiple rounds of snow according to the weather service.
