NY requests federal disaster declaration for August flooding
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is asking the White House to approve a disaster declaration for ten counties in the Empire State, including Essex County and Franklin County.
The request made Saturday concerns the damage left behind by the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby on August 8 through August 10. If President Biden approves, FEMA would be able to help rebuild damaged public infrastructure and remove debris. The President approved a similar request for flood damage in New York’s North Country from early July.
The governor’s office notes that the National Weather Service placed 17 New York counties under a flood watch because of Debby’s remnants. The agency also issued a tornado watch to 26 New York counties.
