NYC fireworks forecast: Chance of rain clouds celebration

New Yorkers might have to deal with a little rain during fireworks displays Thursday night.

There is a 37% chance of rain in Manhattan between 8 p.m. and midnight on the Fourth of July, according to the National Weather Service. The yearly Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks are scheduled to start at 9:25 p.m., and the televised broadcast begins at 8 p.m.

Other forecasters put the chance of rain even higher. AccuWeather says there is an 80% chance of precipitation that night, while the Weather Channel predicts a 50% chance.

The National Weather Service expects mostly cloudy skies with “a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening, then a chance of showers after midnight. Lows in the lower 70s.”

All forecasters are predicting a relatively humid night, with temperatures in the low 80s to mid-70s. Any potential rain is expected to continue overnight and into the next morning.

At free public viewing areas for the explosive Macy’s show, umbrellas and blankets are on the list of banned items, so attendees are advised to plan accordingly.

Daytime celebrations on Independence Day face a low chance of rain, according to meteorologists. There is only a 14% chance of rain from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, and a 29% chance from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-80s, and AccuWeather predicts a” RealFeel” temperature of 91 degrees.

The National Weather Service expects it to be “partly sunny with a slight chance of showers in the morning, then mostly cloudy with a chance of showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon.”
