Oconee Blotter: Fight breaks out between two women in gynecology waiting room

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office reported the following incidents:

MAILBOX DAMAGE: On June 27, several deputies responded to Twin Oaks Drive, Watkinsville, for a series of damage reports. It appeared someone had driven through the neighborhood off Barnett Shoals Road and hit mailboxes, possibly with a baseball bat. At least five residents reported damage that ranged from a low of $50 to $500.

REEL CRIME: On June 30, Deputy Robert Perrin was dispatched to Walmart where the loss prevention officer had detained a 20-year-old Athens man, who tried to leave without paying for a Lewis Reactor fishing reel valued at $79. The man had concealed the reel but was caught.

NO LICENSE: On July 1, Cpl. Lex Ogan was patrolling on Georgia Highway 316 when he spotted a car failing to dim a high beam and one headlight was out. After a traffic stop, the 17-year-old Dacula youth admitted he didn’t have a driver’s license. A gun was in the backseat, but the teen explained it was a water gel gun, which looks similar to a real gun. The youth said he uses it to shoot his friends as it doesn’t hurt as bad as a paint gun. The teen’s mother arrived and followed them to the jail.

TRESPASSER: On July 7, Cpl. Quinton NeSmith was patrolling on Epps Bridge Parkway when he spotted a vehicle parked at an empty house, which in the past was the site of vandalism and drug use. He stopped to investigate. The Hull man, who was deaf, was able to explain that he stopped there to eat some potato salad

BURGLARY: On July 2, Deputy Matthew Lariscy was dispatched to a home on Old Bishop Road, Bishop, where family members caught another family member burglarizing a garage. The 55-year-old Athens woman was not allowed on the property, but she was caught entering the garage. She had left, but the deputy plans to obtain a warrant for her arrest.

WAITING ROOM DISPUTE: On July 2, Deputy Devin Blair and three other deputies responded about 3:30 p.m. to a fight between two women at the Advanced Gynecology office at the Oconee Connector. A 33-year-old Royston woman reported she was in the waiting room with her three children, when a 51-year-old Commerce woman sitting nearby began tapping her fingers loudly on a chair. This upset one of the children. The Royston woman became annoyed and commented that “someone is going to cuss you out.” The Commerce woman responded by challenging the woman to step outside. As they were entering the exit door, the Commerce woman turned and punched the Royston woman in the face. This woman then grabbed her assailant by the throat and shirt, causing the Royston woman to push her back into the waiting room. Facility employees separated the women. The Commerce woman accused the other woman of initiating the fight, but deputies determined she was the aggressor after interviewing employees and others in the waiting room. She was taken to jail on a battery charge and barred from the business.

DUI CHARGED: On July 2, Cpl. Lex Ogan was patrolling about 11:40 p.m. along U.S. Highway 78 near Bogart when he observed a Kia Optima and a check on the license plate showed the female owner didn’t have a license. Although he couldn’t see the driver well, the person looked similar to a woman. Using a law called Kansas vs. Glover, he made a traffic stop. He discovered the driver was a 22-year-old Bogart man. The man, wearing a Coors T-shirt, confessed to drinking a Miller beer. After a series of sobriety tests, he admitted to drinking three “tall boy” beers. He was charged with DUI.

DELIVERY CRIME: On July 4, Deputy Jonathan Strum responded to a home on Whippoorwill Road, where the resident reported ordering $506 worth of merchandise from Walmart that was to be delivered by SparkShop. The items were never delivered, but the woman checked the order and it was reported it as delivered. She called Walmart and SparkShop and learned the delivery driver’s name. The woman called the 21-year-old driver from Athens, who claimed the order had been cancelled so she took it home. At this point, the woman called the sheriff’s office and the deputy was at her home when the driver arrived with bags of Walmart groceries. The woman claimed again the order had been cancelled, but the deputy examined her dashboard list and it showed the goods as falsely being delivered. The woman was charged with theft and taken to jail.

SHOPLIFTING: On July 1, Deputy Johnny Richards was dispatched to Walmart, where a 43-year-old woman was detained for shoplifting several items including two strapless bras, a mirror, hosiery, and shorts. The woman was already on probation and told the officer, “I can’t go to jail.” However, she was jailed on the charge.

TRAILER MISSING: On July 7, Deputy Collin Worsham was dispatched to the 8000 block of Hog Mountain Road, Statham, where a man reported the theft of an enclosed utility trailer that contained tools and was valued at $12,000.
