OG&E travels to south Texas to aid in power restoration following Hurricane Beryl

MOORE, Okla. (KFOR) — OG&E sent crews to south Texas Wednesday morning to aid with power restoration after Hurricane Beryl caused widespread damage to the area.

OG&E crews left from Warren Theater in Moore Wednesday at 6 a.m. and are expected to arrive in south Texas Wednesday afternoon to help CenterPoint Energy with restoring power to 1.4 million customers.

LOCAL NEWS: OG&E crews braving the heat to get power back on after storms

“Our line crews are heading to south Texas to help repair equipment and restore power impacted by Hurricane Beryl that left more than two million residents without electricity,” said Chris Bristol, OG&E Distribution Construction Manager. “South Texas is expecting dangerously high heat this week making OG&E’s mutual assistance support more important than ever. Our crews are stepping up to help our neighbors as quickly and safely as possible.”

Temperatures in south Texas are expected to hit triple digits this week.

More than 100 OG&E employees and contractors consisting of line crews and support personnel, will be assisting in the power restoration process.

Mutual assistance crews are usually deployed for up to 14 days and if more assistance is required, OG&E will rotate in additional crews.

“Mutual assistance is a core part of our industry, and we are grateful for our personnel who are willing to take time away from their families to help a community get back on its feet,” said Andrea Dennis, OG&E Vice President of Transmission & Distribution Operations. “Our crews will be onsite today to help restore power to those impacted by Hurricane Beryl.”

With crews deployed in south Texas, OG&E will keep the necessary capacity to support daily operations for its customers in Oklahoma and western Arkansas.
