One dead following shooting inside Rochester residence

One person is dead following a shooting inside a Rochester residence early Sunday morning.

At approximately 5:30 a.m., Rochester police officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation near Sherman Street and Lyell Avenue, followed by a 911 call reporting a person shot inside a home on Sherman Street.

Upon arrival, officers found a man in his 30s inside the residence with multiple gunshot wounds. The man, who was not identified, was taken to the University of Rochester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police indicated that drugs were actively being sold from the residence, and the investigation will explore potential links between the murder and the drug trade, police said.

The Major Crimes Homicide Unit is leading the investigation and is asking anyone with information or video to call 911.
