One dead and officer injured in shooting in Raleigh County

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — A person was killed and a deputy was shot after a shooting in part of Raleigh County.

According to a post on the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Bolt area of Raleigh County at around 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 29, 2024 due to reports of a potentially mentally disturbed person with a gun.

Once the members of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene, the person fired and shot a Deputy, who was later taken and treated for non-life threatening injuries at a local hospital. The person was shot and killed after a member of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office returned fire during the incident.

The West Virginia State Police and the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau are investigating the incident.

The names of the people involved were not released at this time in order to inform family members.
