One dead, one arrested after possible road rage shooting in Surprise

Surprise police reported that one man was dead and another was in custody following a possible road rage-induced shooting on Saturday afternoon in Surprise.

At about 1:30 p.m., the Suprise Police Department responded to reports of a shooting near 163rd and Grand avenues, with eyewitnesses describing possible road rage, according to Sgt. Jesus Galaz.

Police found a 33-year-old male victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Galaz said an 18-year-old male suspect fled the scene but was later located and arrested.

No one else was injured and there was no threat to the public, according to Galaz.

The shooting closed both lanes of 163rd Avenue between Grand Avenue and Pat Tillman Boulevard, which remained closed as of 5:30 p.m.

Around 7:30 p.m., Surprise police reopened the closed portion of 163rd Avenue.
