One dead after semi-truck hits barrier, rolls down embankment at Lamb’s Canyon

SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — One person is dead after a semi-truck crash in Lamb’s Canyon early Saturday morning, according to the Dept. of Public Safety.

At around 4:30 a.m. on July 27, the driver of a semi-truck, towing a 53-foot trailer, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the right concrete barrier at Lamb’s Canyon.

The driver was heading westbound in the canyon, officials said, and due to the impact, the semi detached from the trailer and rolled down the north embankment. The trailer reportedly remained on the road, blocking all lanes.

Weekend brings chance for isolated storms and breezy conditions with fire danger concerns

During the incident, the passenger of the semi was ejected. They were declared deceased at the scene.

The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed on I-80 at milepost 137 (Lamb’s Canyon) following the crash, according to Utah Highway patrol. Traffic is currently being diverted down the Lamb’s Canyon off-ramp and then back onto I-80. Expect delays in the area, UHP said.

Alternative routes include Provo Canyon or East Canyon to Salt Lake.
