One person dead after being hit by 2 vehicles, including Milwaukee Police squad car

One individual is dead after being struck by two vehicles this morning, including a Milwaukee Police Department squad car.

Police responding to a hostage situation around 2:30 a.m. Saturday struck a body lying in the roadway in the 1400 block of West North Avenue, according to the news release.

The person, 57, had previously been struck by a black SUV that fled the scene prior to the police squad hitting the body, police said. The individual died at the scene.

The officers involved — a 38-year-old man with more than four years of service and a 25-year-old man with over six years of service — will be placed on administrative duty until an investigation is complete.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting in the investigation.

Milwaukee County has seen 10 fatal crashes involving a pedestrian in 2024, according to preliminary data from the state's Department of Transportation. This data does not appear to include this morning's crash. The preliminary data shows 24 fatal crashes involving a pedestrian in the county in 2023.
