SAW holds town halls on opioid settlement funds

STAUNTON – Staunton, Augusta County, and Waynesboro are calling for input on how to use funds from the National Opioid Settlement.

As reported in last week's edition of THE AGENDA, the Knowledge Advisory Group and Carter Foundation will present preliminary findings and recommendations on how to use the funds at the town halls.

Staunton and Waynesboro planning commissions to hear permit requests

WAYNESBORO – The Waynesboro Planning Commission will hold one public hearing on a conditional use permit. The agenda is online.

Mildred Schoenfeld-Hoy requested a permit for a manufactured home on N. Bayard Avenue in the Mixed Business District. The commission will also review minor subdivisions and plats approved since its June 18 meeting.

Meanwhile, the Staunton Planning Commission will meet at the Parks and Recreation Offices at Montgomery Hall Park at 4 p.m.

"We will meet in the parking lot on the right, adjacent to the lower softball field," reads the agenda.

Once the "field trip" ends, the commission will meet in its regular space in City Hall at 5:30 p.m. The commission will consider:

  • Augusta Opportunities Inc.'s request for a permit for a revised master plan for a planned residental development called Old South Village and South View. There will be a public hearing on the application.

  • Management Services Corporation's request for a permit for multi-family use on Frontier Drive, in the General Business District. There will be a public hearing on this application.

  • The final plat for extending Crossing Way and Valley Center Drive.

  • An amendment to Staunton City Council 18.130, Storage and Parking of Trailers and Commercial Vehicles.

  • An amendment to Staunton City Code 18.125, Minimum Off-Street Parking Requirements.

  • An amendment to Title 18, Zoning, of the Staunton City Code to allow wall signs to extend beyond the roof line of a building in certain situations.

Aviation Technology Park to receive water and sewer expansion

WEYERS CAVE – The Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport Commission will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday, July 17. The agenda includes:

  • An amendment with Delta Airport Consultants for Land Acquisition Services.

  • Proposal from Commonwealth Excavating for Phase Two of installing water and sewer in Aviation Technology Park.

  • Utility facilities construction and transfer agreement with Augusta Water.

Waynesboro City Council cancels meeting

WAYNESBORO – The Waynesboro City Council cancelled its regularly scheduled meeting on July 22. This is just one of many cancelled meetings across the SAW localities during the summer.

Lights coming to Afton Mountain

CULPEPER – The Virginia Department of Transportation plans to install lighting on Interstate 64 at the summit of Afton Mountain.

As reported in yesterday's edition of THE DIGEST, VDOT will hold a public hearing on the project at Kate Collins Middle School, 1625 Ivy Street in Waynesboro, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The VDOT team will consider any comment provided at the hearing, or during the 10-day comment period following the event. To provide written comment, email Caroline.Awua-Mensah@vdot.virginia.gov, referencing “I-64 Interchange Lighting Comment” in the subject line.
