Oshkosh man convicted in deadly drunken driving crash sentenced 28 years after emotional three-hour hearing
FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – Fifty-seven-year-old Brian Sippel, the Oshkosh man convicted in a deadly drunken driving crash in January, was sentenced to 28 years in prison on Wednesday.
A release provided by Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney states that Sippel had a blood alcohol concentration of .167 during the January 14 crash that killed Mike Hoffman and seriously injured Hoffman’s wife.

Sippel, an Oshkosh resident, had previously pled no contest to Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle and after an emotional three-hour sentencing hearing on Wednesday, Judge Tricia Walker sentenced Sippel to 28 years of initial prison confinement and 15 years of extended supervision.
The crash on January 14 happened around 5:40 p.m. in Fond du Lac on Highway 151 on the overpass above Interstate 41.
The insidious nature of alcoholism and drunk driving destroys good people and devastates families. The defendant had two prior drunk driving convictions and now his third conviction stole the life of a family’s husband, father, son, and friend. There were no winners with today’s sentencing but I hope this sentence serves as a solemn reminder to have a plan for a designated driver, an Uber, a Lyft, or a taxi to ensure you get home safely, as well as those on our roadways.
