Overnight I-70 closure to take place in Effingham County

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) confirmed that a planned closure will be taking place on eastbound Interstate 70 beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday in Effingham County.

The closure will be between Effingham and Montrose. The purpose behind the closure is to remove a tractor trailer. IDOT said it is expected to last seven to eight hours, as the truck must be unloaded before it can be towed.

Effingham’s Tripower Towing & Recovery will be assisting IDOT and the Illinois State Police (ISP) in the effort.

During the closure, traffic will be detoured north onto Interstate 57 to the first Mattoon exit. Drivers will then go onto highway 45 south to 121. On 121, drivers will head to the Montrose blacktop, which will return them to I-70 east.

Motorists should expect delays during this time.

WCIA has reached out to ISP for more information on how the truck got there, and is awaiting a response.
