State could cushion residents’ insurance costs
Would a tax break to help with homeowners insurance be worth considering?

Joe Biden was only responding to threats against his son
Stop with the condemnation of President Joe Biden for pardoning his son. He said he wouldn't do it and would have kept his word if Hunter was facing a fair Justice Department. What father would knowingly send his son to a hostile Justice Department led by someone who has promised retaliation?
Louise Moulder, Des Moines
Stop the vendetta against public education
No one should be surprised to learn about schools needing improvement. The ongoing vendetta against public education has created that problem. Public schools cannot be underfunded year upon year on the whim of Republicans and their governing leader.
Why does this create problems? Not only are all the charter schools and vouchers draining students and finances, an ongoing teacher shortage is also a concern. Do teachers in private schools have the same qualifications necessary for public school teachers? Are private (ie privileged) schools mandated to accept all students regardless of abilities? A voucher is only acceptable if the student is considered acceptable by those private schools. Quite a contrast to the public schools, which used to be held in high regard by America.
The privileges granted to private schools do not apply to public schools. Public means open to all, and that's what has always been true. English learners take the same tests as everyone else, regardless of their comfort with our crazy language. Students who learn differently also need to conform.
The "grading" of schools based on standardized testing needs to stop!
