Parts of SLO County to finally cool down after heat wave. How much will temperatures drop?

Parts of San Luis Obispo County will experience a well-earned break from the heat this week, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service.

The Paso Robles area will see temperatures drop from the 100s to as low as 86 — just in time for closing weekend of the California Mid-State Fair.

“People are going to be feeling pretty good if they’ve been dealing with 100-degree heat,” said Carol Smith, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

That cooling trend will start Friday and last through the weekend, she said.

“It’s been really hot, and then it’s going to be less hot,” Smith said.

Heat advisory issued for parts of SLO County

As of midday Wednesday, parts of San Luis Obispo County remained under a heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service.

The heat advisory will run until 10 p.m. Thursday for communities including Atascadero, Hearst Castle, Irish Hills, Lake Nacimiento, Paso Robles, San Miguel and Templeton.

The Weather Service warned of high temperatures in the 90s to around 105 degrees.

“Warm overnight conditions with low temperatures will be common offering little relief from the heat,” the agency said.

That means there’s a high risk for heat-related illnesses for those sensitive to hot weather, the Weather Service said, including “the very young, the very old, those without air conditioning and those active outdoors.”

How long will cool temperatures stick around?

“It’s going to cool down through the weekend,” Smith said.

But then, she said, “On Monday, we have a warming trend again.”

That’s about normal for this time of year, she said.

Paso Robles had 14 days with high temperatures of 100 degrees or higher so far this July, Smith said, as well as three days of 110 degrees or warmer.
