Paterson will name late congressman's street 'Bill Pascrell Way'
PATERSON — Bill Pascrell Jr. continues to get posthumous tributes.
The block where the late congressman lived for decades will be renamed “Bill Pascrell Way” under a resolution approved by the Paterson City Council on Tuesday. The council also adopted a resolution honoring Pascrell’s public service.
A schoolteacher who became Paterson’s mayor in the 1990s, Pascrell also served in the New Jersey Legislature and was later a member of Congress for 27 years.
“Congressman Bill Pascrell's legacy is marked by his unwavering commitment to improving the community, advocating for social justice, public safety, health care, education, and the overall well-being of the citizens he served,” said the resolution naming the section of Paterson’s Ninth Avenue, between East 28th and East 29th streets, after him.

Meanwhile, in Washington, D.C., the House of Representatives voted to name the federal government’s traumatic brain injury grants after Pascrell. The program handed out $13.1 million in grants during the 2023 fiscal year, officials said.
Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. cited Pascrell’s efforts at funding brain injury research as the basis for the honor.
Congress also is considering naming the Great Falls national park footbridge and the park’s overlook section after Pascrell.
