Pedestrian dies in crash on South Congress near William Cannon

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A section of South Congress Avenue southbound was closed after a pedestrian died in a crash Wednesday morning, according to the Austin Police Department.

APD said in a post on X at 7:18 a.m. that officers were responding to a deadly crash in the 7200 block of South Congress Avenue. That’s south of William Cannon Drive between Cloudview Drive and Meadow Lea Drive.

Austin-Travis County EMS said medics responded to the crash, which was a vehicle-pedestrian collision.

Medics performed CPR on the patient, an adult, on the scene and then en route to St. David’s South Austin before the person was ultimately pronounced dead.

Part of the southbound side of South Congress was closed in the area while police investigated.

Police began clearing the crime scene, but a CapMetro bus got stuck while attempting to turn around and blocked all lanes of traffic shortly after 8 a.m.
