Man stabbed to death near South Bay trolley station

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A young man was killed in a stabbing Tuesday night near the Palm Avenue Trolley station in the Palm City neighborhood, San Diego police said.

Authorities were first notified of the incident around 5:50 p.m. Southern Division officers responded to the scene in the area of 600 Hollister St., where they found a man at the MTS Blue Line station suffering from at least one stab wound, according to SDPD Lt. Jud Campbell.

Paramedics and responding officers began lifesaving measures before he was transported to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead by medical personnel shortly after.

The victim has not been identified at this time, but was described by Campbell as a young man, “possibly a teenager or young adult.”

MTS officials temporarily closed the Palm Avenue Station while police investigated the scene. The area has since reopened with Trolley service resuming at 5 a.m.

Four men killed in suspected DUI crash identified

According to Campbell, preliminary information indicated there appeared to have been a physical fight between a small group of men on the west sidewalk of 600 Hollister St. From there, the fight appeared to move to a nearby parking lot.

Police believe the victim was stabbed during the fight, afterwards running across the street to the Trolley station where he was found.

The suspect, described by Campbell as a man who is “youthful in appearance,” was then seen running into a small, dark-colored vehicle that fled southbound on Hollister Street. No further information about the suspect was available.

An investigation into the stabbing remains ongoing. According to SDPD, detectives are continuing to investigate the area, including attempting to locate surveillance footage and witnesses.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have other information is asked to contact SDPD’s Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
