PETERSBURG — The Petersburg Chapter of Black Girl Social Club [BGSC Petersburg] hosted its second annual Back to School Bash at Poplar Lawn Park on July 13. Under the leadership of Dr. Shaneka Rose and Tomeca Bynum, the ladies of BGSC Petersburg served over 200 families with fully packed book bags, gently used clothing items, food and community resources, all free of charge to citizens.

Local city officials including Mayor Samuel Parham, Vice Mayor Darrin Hill, Ward 4 City Council Member Charles Cuthbert Jr. and Ward 4 School Board Representative Celeste Wynn were some of the special guests in attendance to show their support for the Club's initiative.

"This was an amazing event and could not have been done without a phenomenal group of women within the chapter of Black Girl Social Club located within the city of Petersburg," Rose said. "The heart that the ladies of this chapter exude for the city screams loudly as they truly embrace the 'when we are one we all win' concept, especially the city and youth of Petersburg."

Community sponsors included Pound Enterprises, RoseBuds Academy Educational Services, Spring of Hope Therapeutic Services, Crafty Social Worker and United Health. They helped provide the community with local resources that included health care services, therapeutic mentoring and academic tutoring, mental health support and more.
