Pfluger calls on US Secret Service Director Cheatle to resign

Jul. 18—WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) released the following statement calling on United States Secret Service (USSS) Director Kimberly Cheatle to resign after the assassination attempt of President Donald Trump:

"Kimberly Cheatle must resign as Director of the Secret Service. Every day brings another major revelation in the embarrassing failure to keep President Trump and his supporters secure. A resignation will not excuse her from accountability. We will find out the truth and not rely on Trump-haters to tell us what happened."

Businesses across the world are reporting IT outages, including Windows "blue screen of death" errors on their computers, in what has already become one of the most widespread IT disruptions in recent years. The outage — linked to a software update from popular cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike — has affected computers running Microsoft Windows at organizations across various sectors, including airlines, banks, retailers, brokerage houses, media companies, and railway networks. CrowdStrike's chief executive, George Kurtz, confirmed in a post on X that a "defect" in a content update for Windows hosts had caused the outage, and Kurtz ruled out a cyberattack.

J. Michael Cline, the co-founder of Fandango and multiple other startups over his multi-decade career, died after falling from a Manhattan hotel, New York’s Deputy Commissioner of Public Information tells TechCrunch. Upon arrival, "officers found an unconscious and unresponsive male with injuries indicative of a fall from an elevated position," the Deputy Commissioner said in a statement emailed to TechCrunch. Police later identified the individual as James Michael Cline, 64-year-old resident of Palm Beach, Florida.
