WAKEFIELD, MA--(Marketwire -09/05/12)- It takes place twice a year, featuring film cameras and images up to 150 years old. It's the premier event of the Boston-based Photographic Historical Society of New England (PHSNE), and it attracts photography dealers, aficionados, and college students from as far away as the west coast, Canada, and Europe. It, of course, is the Photographica Show and it's taking place Saturday, September 22nd and Sunday, September 23rd at Wakefield's Americal Center on Main Street.

"This semi-annual event brings together a wide and surprisingly diverse swath of people," says PHSNE President John Dockery. "The people you'll find at this show include photo professionals who spent decades working for camera makers and photographic supply companies. There are dealers and collectors who have become photo historians and are preserving the legacy of the craft. We also see many college students who not only seek quality used equipment, but also have a fascination for the black and white photography that documents our cultural and political history all the way back to the pre-Civil War era."

"People come to our Photographica Shows by the hundreds for many different reasons," adds PHSNE Membership Chair Joe Walters. "Some want to buy or sell cameras and photographic equipment. Some are captivated by old historical photos that show the America of yesteryear. And many come to mingle with photo experts and learn as much as they can." Walters continues, "You'd be hard pressed to find this much photo and historical knowledge anyplace else. Some incredible conversations and connections take place at this event."

The show features plenty to do including educational exhibits, hands-on inspection of merchandise, expert advice from professionals, and the always popular "Dollar Tables" where quality photographic items are sold for as little as one dollar. Show hours are 9am-4pm on Saturday, September 22nd and 9am-3pm on Sunday, September 23rd. Of special note is the 100+ lot camera auction that's taking place on Saturday immediately after show closing.

The venue for the Photographica Show is the Americal Center, 467 Main Street, Wakefield, MA. Free parking is available in the Americal Center parking lot, as well as on the street. Admission is $5 for the general public and $4 for seniors, while students and active military (with ID) get in for free.
