Plover considers plans to renovate part of Younkers building for Tractor Supply Co. store

PLOVER – Village leaders are considering plans to add a Tractor Supply Co. store on Plover Road at the former Younkers store space.

Plover’s Plan Commission reviewed the plans and held a public hearing earlier this month to build a Tractor Supply Co. store at 1776 Post Road. The plan will now go before the Village Board at its July 17 meeting.

Plans call for a 29,636-square-foot Tractor Supply Co. retail store, using outdoor displays and storage areas on the east side of the former Younkers building. The store will offer home improvement, agriculture, lawn and garden maintenance, livestock, equine and pet care products.

The Lokre Development Co., Roland Lokre and Michael Masgay purchased the Younkers property in December 2021 with the vision to turn the former retail store into a mix of commercial uses. Masgay and Lokre also worked together on redeveloping the former Shopko building nearby into Artist & Fare, accommodating a variety of tenants.

Younkers on Plover Road opened as Elder-Beerman in March 2001. Bon-Ton Stores then changed the store’s name to Younkers in August 2008 because the company said customers were more familiar with the Younkers brand. The building has been empty since Younkers closed in 2018 after Bon-Ton Stores filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
