Police body camera footage offers more information from Short North mass shooting
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Columbus police have released body camera footage from the mass shooting in the Short North on June 23.
The video shows the chaotic moments as gunfire erupts in the crowded area. It also shows the officers’ high-speed chase after the suspects.

The Columbus Division of Police released body camera footage from 11 officers. There are several vantage points from officers who seemed to already be in the Short North area working special duty.
At 2:26 a.m. there is a burst of gunfire and officers begin running toward it. We heard at least 20 shots fired. High Street was crowded when the shots were fired, according to the video.
Many people can be heard yelling to Columbus Police officers, “Over here. He was shot.” and “They went that way.”
Multiple officers run after the suspect or suspects, finding a white Honda Civic identified as the suspect’s getaway car in an alley off Fourth Street. Officers said they see a male person in the passenger seat.

“Hands out the window now,” they yell.
The person yells back at them.
“I’m shot, I’m shot,” he said.
Officers tell the driver to stop the car, but he takes off quickly.
Several cruisers take off after the suspect, down Fourth Street to Summit Street onto I-670 westbound. One officer airs over the radio that “speeds are about 91.”
During the chase, the footage appears to show the first officer in the pursuit bump the back of the suspect car.

“Stay with him,” the officer said.
There is also confusion over the radio from some officers on which direction they are going: eastbound or westbound on I-670. There also seems to be frustration from other officers. Officers lose the Honda around I-670 and Grandview Avenue.
Meanwhile in the Short North, body camera footage shows officers rendering aid to gunshot victims and marking off a large portion of the road as a crime scene.
There are victims on High Street and alleys off of High Street for about 1/5 of a mile from West Fifth Avenue to West Third Avenue. Columbus police said 10 people were shot.
Police believe there are at least four shooters based on shell casings found at the scene.
Council expresses frustration at Short North violence
Police said that hours after the shooting, 19-year-old DeAngelo Fuller turned himself in and identified himself as the driver of the getaway car.
Police are still searching for the shooters involved.
Columbus police ask anyone with any information about the shooters to call 614-645-4545. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
