Police caught man trading in phone used in child sexual abuse. He'll serve time

A Springfield man was sentenced in federal court Thursday for the sexual exploitation of two children.

Travis Tyler Isham, 32, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Douglas Harpool to 20 years in federal prison without parole. Following prison, he will have to spend 10 years on supervised release.

Isham will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison and will be subject to federal and state sex offender registration requirements, which may apply throughout his life.

In December 2023, Isham pleaded guilty to two counts of the sexual exploitation of children. He admitted using the two children to produce child sexual abuse material.

According to a news release, investigators found 276 images of child sexual abuse on Isham’s cellphone. Those images were screenshots from a video of child sexual abuse that was also found on the cellphone.

He faced a tougher sentence because he tried to dispose of the cellphone used to commit the crime, the release said.

At the time law enforcement contacted Isham, he was trying to trade in his cellphone at a store. The screen was shattered and it appeared the phone was bent.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie Wan. It was investigated by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office Homeland Security Investigations, the Springfield Police Department, and the Southwest Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force.
