Police fatally shoot man outside RNC; victim allegedly had knife

Police officers shot and killed a man outside the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee on Tuesday afternoon, according to multiple reports.

The shooting occurred in a park about 1.2 miles from Fiserv Forum, which is hosting the RNC all week, local ABC affiliate WISN reported.

Witnesses told the station two men were fighting in the park before one man pulled a knife. Numerous cops quickly responded to the scene and fatally shot the man, according to WISN.

The officers involved in the shooting were not local Milwaukee cops, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. They were members of the Columbus Division of Police from Columbus, Ohio, and in town to provide extra security at the RNC.

No Columbus police officers were injured in the incident, which marks the ninth time this year that Columbus cops have shot someone, according to the Columbus Dispatch.

Officials said they made no changes to RNC security plans even though the convention opened two days after Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was shot in the ear at a rally in Butler, Pa. Trump appeared at the convention on Monday night with a bandage on his right ear.
