Police ID woman killed on I-495 after stopping car on shoulder, trying to cross

Delaware State Police have identified the 38-year-old Maryland woman killed Sunday night after being hit by a car on I-495 near Edgemoor.

According to police, Angel Alston, of Elkton, was trying to cross I-495 north near Edgemoor Road when she walked into the path of a Honda Accord that was in the left lane. The 47-year-old driver, from Bear, hit Alston before the car stopped on the left shoulder of the highway.

Police said Alston had initially been driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee on I-495 when she stopped the car on the right shoulder of the highway about a quarter-mile north of the crash scene. Police did not say what caused Alston to stop, or if she was on her way to get help.

The car had its hazard lights on at the time.
