Police identify 20-year-old man killed in Newport News shooting

Police in Newport News have identified the man who was shot and killed Friday night on Settlement Lane.

At 11:52 p.m., Newport News police responded to a Shotspotter activation in the 500 block of Settlement Lane, in a northern part of the city near Fort Eustis. At the scene, emergency services found 20-year-old Kamron Thompson outside with at least one gunshot wound, according to a news release.

Thompson, of Newport News, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about Thompson’s death is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
