Police investigate Sunday morning shooting involving teen

Jul. 7—Santa Fe police responded to Presbyterian Hospital early Sunday morning following a report of a 15-year-old gunshot wound victim.

The victim, who was not identified, was transported to the hospital by four other teens. He was in critical condition when officers arrived around 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning and has since been transferred to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, then University of New Mexico Hospital to receive further medical care.

The victim's family has been notified of his condition, Santa Fe police Deputy Chief Ben Valdez wrote in a media release Sunday.

The investigation is active and ongoing, Valdez added, though police believe there are no suspects responsible for the incident at large.

"Based on the investigation, the gunshot wound was not self-inflicted nor was it accidental," Valdez said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
