Police K9 recovering after being shot during fatal Harrisburg officer-involved shooting
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A police K9 is recovering after being shot early Sunday morning in Harrisburg during a deadly officer-involved shooting.
Capitol Police K9 Rex was released from Metropolitan Veterinary Associates in Norristown Monday and escorted home by police procession.
Veterinarians found a bullet in the dog’s pelvic area and left it because there was a possibility it could cause “unnecessary damage,” police said in a statement.

“We will conduct several tests to ensure he is fully recovered before he goes back to work,” police said. “Rex will enjoy some well-deserved time off and plenty of treats while he recovers.”
K9 Rex was struck during an officer-involved shooting that happened in the area of the 200 block of South Street around 1:30 a.m. Kendrell Hall, 22, was shot and killed by police after he allegedly opened fire while being chased by Harrisburg and Capitol police officers.

The incident is under investigation by Dauphin County Criminal Investigative Division and the District Attorney’s office.
Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo issued a statement Sunday afternoon, saying “all indications are that the decedent precipitated the deadly encounter and was the first to use deadly force.”
