POLICE NEWS: 6-year-old Goshen girl runs into road, struck

Jul. 22—A girl was hospitalized after a crash Sunday afternoon in Goshen.

Joanna Schrock, 57, of Nappanee, was traveling northwest in the 500 block of U.S. 33/Lincolnway East when a 6-year-old Goshen girl ran out into the road at 12:59 p.m., a report from Goshen police reported.

Schrock's black Chevrolet Traverse struck the child, who was taken to Elkhart General Hospital after the vehicle appeared to have run over her foot, the report reads.

ELKHART SHOOTING

Elkhart County Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred in the 300 block of West Cleveland Avenue in Elkhart.

The shooting occurred at 10:52 p.m. Saturday. Two men were reportedly shot and one died at the scene. The other was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The Elkhart County Homicide Unit was activated and took over the investigation, per protocol.

ARRESTS

—A 48-year-old man was arrested by Goshen police at 1:15 a.m. Monday on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with priors after he was stopped for a moving violation near Meijer, 4522 Elkhart Road.

—A 35-year-old man was arrested by Goshen police at 4:51 p.m. Saturday on charges of being a habitual traffic violator and possession of marijuana after he was stopped for a traffic violation near the intersection of Third Street and Lincoln Avenue.

—A 33-year-old man was arrested by Goshen police at 12:37 a.m. Sunday on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and being a habitual traffic violator after he was stopped for a moving violation near South Third Street and West Washington Street.

—A 40-year-old woman was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 11:46 p.m. on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment after she was stopped for a traffic violation near Bristol Street and C.R. 11.

—A 40-year-old man was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 12:20 a.m. July 19 on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment after he was stopped for a traffic violation near C.R. 17 and C.R. 20.

—A 22-year-old man was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 12:41 a.m. Saturday on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangerment and driving without a license after he was stopped for speeding at Nappanee Street and Mishawaka Street.

—A 41-year-old woman was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 9:30 a.m. Saturday on charges of possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, driving while suspended with priors, operating a vehicle with a fictitious license plate, and for several warrants, after she was stopped at Nappanee Street and Franklin Street.

—A 34-year-old man was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 10:01 a.m. Sunday on charges of resisting law enforcement and possession of marijuana after a foot pursuit in the 54000 block of Wilson Street.

—A 23-year-old man was arrested by Elkhart County deputies at 11:55 p.m. Saturday on a charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he was stopped in the area of Ind. 19 and Lusher Avenue.

HIT-AND-RUN

—Elkhart County deputies are investigating a hit-and-run crash that took place at 7 p.m. Sunday. The victim told police someone struck her vehicle in a parking lot in the 400 block of North Division Street and left the scene.

—Elkhart County deputies responded to a hit-and-run crash in the 53000 block of C.R. 19 that occurred between June 20 and June 21 and the person left the scene.

BURGLARY

—A man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between July 18 and 19 items were stolen from his storage unit at Storage Rentals of America, 28874 C.R. 4, Elkhart.

—A 63-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that between April 10, 2022, and July 15 someone burglarized her home taking multiple items in the 24000 block of Park Avenue.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF

—A 60-year-old woman reported to Goshen police at 4:38 p.m. Sunday that her garage entrance door was vandalized in the 200 block of New Street.

—A 69-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies at 2 p.m. July 19 that someone damaged her vehicle in the 51000 block of Jenny Lane.

—A 58-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies at 4:33 p.m. July 19 that someone threatened him with a knife and damaged walls and windows of a home in the 51000 block of C.R. 109 in Elkhart.

THEFT

—A 34-year-old man reported to Goshen police at 5:12 p.m. Saturday the theft of a bike from his garage in the 300 block of South Sixth Street.

—A 61-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies on July 19 that his boat and trailer were stolen from his driveway in the 56000 block of Best Avenue.

—A 25-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between 4:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. July 19 someone stole an item from his front yard in the 20000 block of U.S. 20.

—A 22-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that between April 25 and July 15 two teens stole items from her home in the 29000 block of C.R. 28 in Elkhart.

—A 59-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies at 5 p.m. Saturday that someone stole his change after checking out at Walmart, 30830 Old U.S. 20.

—A 48-year-old woman reported to Elkhart County deputies that between 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. someone stole the key to a vehicle in the 56000 block of C.R. 1 in Elkhart.

FRAUD

—An 18-year-old man reported to Goshen police a possible odometer fraud regarding a truck he purchased at a car lot in Goshen.

—A 68-year-old man reported to Elkhart County deputies that between July 16 and July 17 someone committed fraud.
