Police: Old Forge man charged with assault
OLD FORGE — A borough man threatened to beat up his girlfriend and her son after an argument over a child’s repeated requests for more food, police said.
Archie Campbell, 37, of 207 S. Milwaukee Ave., is charged with assault and harassment.
Police say at about 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 12, they were called to the Jetz Car Wash on South Main Street for the report of an assault. When officers arrived, they found Brianna Hazlak in her car. She told police she had been at her South Milwaukee Avenue residence earlier, when Campbell assaulted her.
Also at the scene was an employee of Community and School Based Behavioral Health of the Old Forge School District, who was assisting Hazlak and her son.
Hazlak told officers she and her children had been home with Campbell, when one of them asked for more food after dinner.
Campbell came out of the bathroom irate and shoved Hazlak, threatening to beat her up, police said.
Campbell swung at Hazlak, but missed, police said.
Hazlak then fled the residence and drove to the car wash, where she was met by the CSBBH employee.
As Hazlak was writing out a statement as to what happened, Campbell repeatedly called her cellphone.
When officers went to the Milwaukee Avenue residence, Campbell had fled the scene.
Police spoke with Hazlak, who said Campbell was repeatedly texting her and asking if she had “called the cops.”
Officers asked her to answer and put the call on speaker. They noted Campbell was screaming and berating Hazlak for calling the police.
Officer Daniel Sensi accompanied Hazlak to her residence to pick up some of her things, so she could leave the residence for the night.
At about 9 p.m. Sensi was able to talk to Campbell on the phone, asking him to turn himself in.
Campbell agreed and, unprompted, said he “didn’t touch his baby mama,” police said.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 27 before District Judge Paul Ware.
He remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.
