Police release ages, hometowns of victims in I-75 wrong-way crash in Royal Oak
Police have released ages and hometowns of the victims in an early Sunday morning wrong-way crash on Interstate 75 in Royal Oak that killed four people and critically injured a fifth.
At about 2:50 a.m. Sunday, the Detroit Regional Communications Center began receiving calls of a wrong-way driver in a Volkswagen, driving north in the southbound lanes of I-75, MSP said. Callers then reported the Volkswagen had hit a Dodge Caravan near 11 Mile Road.
MSP gave more information on the victims on Monday. Three people in the Dodge Caravan — a 34-year-old male from Troy, a 54-year-old male from Mexico and 71- year-old male from Mexico — and the driver of the Volkswagen — a 29-year-old male from Oak Park — were all pronounced dead on the scene, MSP said. Another passenger from the Caravan, a 31-year-old female from Troy, remains hospitalized and is expected to survive.

The medical examiner has completed the initial examination and is waiting on toxicology and other reports. Authorities are continuing to investigate where the at-fault driver may have entered the freeway.
