Pooler community’s beloved swan that was lost, has been found

POOLER, Ga. (WSAV) – A beloved Pooler community swan that seemed to have mysteriously disappeared, has been found.

The swan, who has since been named “Baby” somehow landed at an apartment complex in Pooler where resident Liz Sipple, a former Department of Natural Resources employee with the state of Wisconsin, resides.

Sipple says when she found Baby, she and began feeding it. After noticing it limping, she called Waddle On Inn Waterfowl Rescue in Blue ridge, Ga.

Pooler community rallies to bring back beloved swan

Waddle On Inn Waterfowl Rescue sent someone to Pooler to take Baby to their facility for rehab. There, it was determined that Baby was limping because it was bitten by a turtle, and the bite became infected.

Baby is now being cared for at Waddle On Inn Waterfowl Rescue and is set to undergo surgery at 2 p.m. on Wednesday to amputate a small portion of its leg due to the infection.

Sipple says Baby is safe and well cared for and will probably never be let back into the wild because she cannot fly.

However, Baby will be mated with another bird.

Community members in the Pooler neighborhood near the pond Baby used to be in had been looking for her since this past weekend, hoping to get the beloved swan back.

Sipple says she did not realize everyone was so concerned about Baby, who she believes was likely someone’s pet, but got left behind at the pond, where she became prey to alligators and turtles.
