Portsmouth couple awaken to find car damaged by shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Portsmouth Police responded to a shots-fired call early Friday morning, and while no one was hurt, one car was badly damaged.

A woman, identified as Jessica, said the shots woke her up early this morning, but she said she and her husband didn’t realize until a few hours later that one of the shots hit their car.

She said this isn’t the first shooting in front of their house, near the intersection of Winchester Drive and Loudoun Avenue, since they began living there in 2016.

Around 2:30 a.m. they heard the gunfire and looked outside to make sure everyone was OK. When they didn’t see anyone, they went back to sleep.

She said her husband had to leave for work early, and when he came out and got in the car, he noticed something wrong.

“Gets in the car, tries to defrost the windshield and noticed the wiper blade on the back catches, and he looks back and there’s a hone in the window, so that when he gets out, that’s when he notices there were cop cars and cops talking to some of the neighbors, so he brought the cop over and showed him the damage.”

She said the officer told her husband that their car wasn’t the only one hit. She said officers stayed and gathered evidence at the scene for awhile Thursday night.

10 On Your Side reached out to police to see if they have any suspect information in this case, but has yet to hear back.
