HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — President Biden sat down for an extended interview giving him the opportunity to make up for his debate performance.

Some argue that Biden was asked the same question, but rephrased, for all 22 minutes: will he or won’t he step aside from being the Democratic nominee for president?

Biden was pressed with questions ranging from his fitness for office to whether or not he has had neurological exams, all circling back to if he can serve as commander in chief for another four years. Biden has faced backlash since his performance in last week’s debate, with some Democrats and Democratic Party donors requesting he step aside as the nominee.

Biden dismisses age questions in interview as he tries to salvage reelection effort

News 19’s political analysts Jay Town and David Person weighed in with their thoughts following the interview, and how it could affect voter’s perceptions of Biden’s fitness for office.

“If I was a democrat, I think tonight, the interview tonight, was much better than the debate,” Town said. “So, on that score, he did much better tonight than he did at the debate. But, as a Republican, I can tell you I have zero confidence that the performance he gave at the debate isn’t a normal performance. I believe that it is and I believe that it has been for years.”

“I think, people, whatever their mindset was before the interview, I don’t think it really did much to change that,” Person said. “Because, his performance wasn’t so strong that it would alleviate all concerns. I think that it was a good performance, and it showed that, as he has said, he certainly had a bad day during the debate. But, the age questions preceded the debate.”
