I was a young child when Franklin D. Roosevelt spoke to America, via radio, about Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor, proclaiming "Dec. 7, 1941, a day that will live in infamy." Now, it seems I'm living through another day that will live in infamy, but this one is a self-inflicted wound delivered by six Supreme Court justices of the United States.

July 1, 2024 will live in infamy as the day SCOTUS attacked our Constitution by overruling America's rule of law that states all will be treated equally under the law. With this assault, the so-called "conservative" justices declared the president is above the law, and immune from criminal prosecution for any presidential acts, no matter how heinous, if they fall within the chief executive's official responsibility. The six Republicans on the court, dressed in black robes, have issued a power grab that will take the office of president of the United States to a level equivalent to a king that can do no harm, or if you prefer, emperor.

The six justices who issued this infamous decision all were appointed by Republican presidents; three were appointed by former President Donald Trump.

Mike Kelly: America hates Trump and Biden. But worse, why are we so unhappy?

This corrupt Supreme Court is far too powerful and is out of sync with our system of checks and balances necessary to maintain a viable democracy. There is no solution to this dire problem except to vote. If Trump is not defeated in November, all of the above will become a reality.
