Prince William and Kate Middleton have addressed Monday’s “heinous” stabbings at a Taylor Swift-themed dance class near Liverpool, which have so far left three little girls dead and several more victims in critical condition.

The 42-year-old royals released a statement concerning the tragedy at the Hart Space Studio in Southport, the Merseyside town that sits about 20 miles north of Liverpool.

“As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends and loved ones of those killed and injured in Southport today are going through,” they wrote on their Instagram Story. “We send our love, thoughts and prayers to all those involved in this horrid and heinous attack.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales — the latter of whom has kept a low profile in recent months amid cancer treatment — also thanked emergency responders “who, despite being met with the most horrific scenes, demonstrated compassion and professionalism when your community needed you most.”

Two girls died Monday and a third died early Tuesday as a result of injuries sustained, according to a Merseyside Police statement. They have been identified as Bebe King, 6, Elsie Dot Stancombe, 7, and Alice Aguiar, 9.

Swift, 34, also shared a statement on Instagram reacting to the nightmarish attack.

“The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously, and I’m just completely in shock,” wrote Swift. “The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.”

Police have said a 17-year-old male from nearby Banks is being held in connection with the attack, which is not currently being treated as terror-related. Officials have also noted they are not seeking anybody else in connection with it.

Noting that the name circulating on social media in connection with the suspect is incorrect, authorities urged the public “not to speculate on details of the incident while the investigation is ongoing.”

Eight other children were injured in the stabbing, five of whom are in critical condition. Two adults are also in critical condition.
