Pursuit suspect dead after self-inflicted gunshot wound: BPD

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A suspect who led police on a pursuit is dead after a self-inflicted gunshot wound late Thursday night.

Police say officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the 1900 block of Tulare Street. The driver allegedly fled and a vehicle pursuit started.

The vehicle came to a stop in the 2500 block of Pacific Drive and the driver fled on foot, according to police.

Officers set up a perimeter around the neighborhood and received assistance from Air 1 and members of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Teams.

The suspect was found in the rear yard of a residence in the 1400 block of Camino Primavera with a gunshot wound. Medical aid responded and the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say officers did not fire their weapons at any time during the incident.
