Russian President Vladimir Putin was greeted by crowds in Pyongyang, North Korea, as he shook hands with Kim Jong Un, the country’s leader, on Wednesday, June 19.

Footage released by the Kremlin shows Putin and Kim in Kim Il-Sung Square.

The visit marked Putin’s first to North Korea in 24 years.

In an article credited to Putin and published in North Korean media, the Russian leader said, “We are ready to closely work together to bring more democracy and stability to international relations.”

“We will develop alternative trade and mutual settlement mechanisms not controlled by the West, jointly oppose illegitimate unilateral restrictions, and shape the architecture of equal and indivisible security in Eurasia,” the Russian leader said. Credit: Kremlin via Storyful
