Qdoba is opening new restaurants in Myrtle Beach and Wilmington. Here’s what we know

A national Mexican restaurant chain is opening a new restaurant in the Myrtle Beach area and throughout the Palmetto State.

According to a press release, Qdoba is adding a Myrtle Beach location. The restaurant will open by 2028 but is not the first Qdoba to open along the Grand Strand. According to Google, Myrtle Beach previously had one at 1780 Pine Island Road, which was permanently closed.

The Myrtle Beach area isn’t the only part of South Carolina getting a new Qdoba. The press release added that Greenville and Columbia will also get new locations and eateries in Greenville and Wilmington, N.C. Qdoba currently has three locations in South Carolina.

While Qdoba’s new restaurant might open in 2028, other national restaurant chains have expanded throughout Myrtle Beach. Construction began on a new Cook Out restaurant in February 2024, with the eatery opening soon along International Drive in Carolina Forest.

Starbucks opened two new locations in Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet in 2023 and 2024. Meanwhile, Arby’s also added an eatery to the Conway area next to AutoZone Auto Parts at 146 Middle Ridge Ave.

The additional fast food restaurants come as the Myrtle Beach area also sees an influx of new residents. The United States Census Bureau estimates the Myrtle Beach area population close to 400,000 as of July 1, 2023, a 13.2 percent increase from April 1, 2020. The Census Bureau also found that the population grew by about 47 percent between 2010 and 2023, The Sun News reported in June 2024.

The population explosion along the Grand Strand is partly due to an influx of people moving to the area, as Myrtle Beach has also become more of a retirement destination. A May 2024 report published by Pods Moving & Storage also found that Myrtle Beach tied for the most moved-to city in the United States for both 2023 and 2024.
