Queens neighborhood on edge after deadly shooting

BAYSIDE, Queens (PIX11) — Residents of a Queens neighborhood are very concerned after an early morning shooting Tuesday.

The shooting left a 43-year-old man dead. The gunman then stole a second man’s cellphone, according to the NYPD.

Police say the victim and his 21-year-old friend were walking near 32nd Avenue and 208th Street in Bayside when they were approached from behind.

The gunman opened fire, a bullet hit the 43-year-old in the head. The victim died at the scene according to police.

One resident who lives on the block where the shooting happened said he couldn’t believe anything like this happened there. NYPD crime statistics show overall crime is down in the confines of the 111 Precinct, until this incident police say they have not responded to a murder or shooting.

The second victim was not hurt, police have not released the identity of the victim pending family notification. The phone was later found on the Clearview Expressway service road at 26th Avenue, sources told PIX11 News.

The suspect, wearing all black, fled the scene in a Subaru, according to authorities.
