The mid-Hudson Valley is in for another gloomy work week, with precipitation and scattered thunderstorms expected for the days ahead.

Forecast for Poughkeepsie: July 30 - Aug. 2, plus weekend brief

For the beginning of the week, expect hot and humid weather with the temperatures in upper 80s for the Poughkeepsie area. There will be some relief at night, Webb noted, with temperatures dropping down to the upper 60s and low 70s.

In terms of precipitation, Webb said the highest possibility is looking to be for Tuesday night into Wednesday, with 50% to 60% chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms. According to the Storm Prediction Center, there is only a general thunderstorm outlook, Webb said, so you can expect "heavy downpour and some lightning."

Thursday will provide a break from the gray skies and is looking to be mostly sunny and hot.

"Thursday into Friday into this weekend, temperatures are going to be in the low 90s," Webb said.

However, on Friday, the chance of precipitation returns, but as of now is only at up to 30%. "It could just be a pop-up thunderstorm on Friday, but nothing looking too severe right now," she said.

For this weekend, it might not be as nice as last weekend, with the chances of precipitation persisting in the afternoons on both days. Otherwise, Webb said, the weekend may be mostly sunny.

For the Middletown area this week, Ramsey said the temperatures are predicted to be in the around the mid-80s. "We will continue to see showers and thunderstorms in the forecast pretty much through Wednesday night."

Some rain and thunderstorms can be expected Tuesday, and the same goes for Wednesday, but maybe a few degrees cooler and a larger coverage area for rain.

For the Middletown area on Wednesday, Ramsey said, "We are forecasting a 70% coverage."

Similar to Poughkeepsie, these thunderstorms do not show much cause for concern, besides what to expect of a regular summer storm.

Thursday there is a bit of a break, with temperatures predicted right around 90 degrees, and mostly sunny conditions.

For Friday and into the weekend, "Unfortunately," Ramsey said, "for anyone who has plans, you do still have scattered showers and thunderstorms returning." However, the chances are a bit lower than the beginning of this week, with Friday at a 30% chance in the late afternoon, Saturday at a 50% chance and Sunday at a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
