Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins again said she will not be voting for former President Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election.

Instead, Collins said at an event in Limerick last week that she will be writing in former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley for president, as reported by WMTW. Collins’ office did not respond to a question from Maine Morning Star about whether her position has changed since the attempted assassination of Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Collins is also reportedly not attending the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee this week, during which her party is expected to formally nominate Trump as the Republican candidate for the November ballot.

In response to the shooting attempt this weekend, Collins wrote on X that she was relieved that Trump appeared to be OK.

“However, this violence is absolutely appalling,” she added. “Thank God for the Secret Service and first responders who hurried President Trump out of harm’s way.”

Unlike many of her Republican colleagues, Collins has occasionally been criticial of the former president. While Collins never said whether she voted for him in the 2020 election, earlier this year she endorsed Haley and said she would not be voting for Trump in November.

In 2021, she was one of just seven Republicans who voted during the impeachment trial to convict Trump of inciting an insurrection after his supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 to stop the counting of electoral votes.
