Get ready to ride: DeLand SunRail service to launch on Aug. 12

The DeLand SunRail station will launch on Monday, Aug. 12, marking the "northernmost stop on the 61-mile commuter rail system," according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

The station is at 2491 Old New York Ave. in DeLand. SunRail operates Monday through Friday and connects Orange, Osceola, Seminole and Volusia counties. Tickets start at $2 with discounts available for seniors, kids and those with disabilities.

Volusia County's VoRide rideshare service will go to the station. And bicycles are allowed on the trains.

"SunRail offers an affordable, stress-free travel option for commuting to work and school and exploring Central Florida to discover the rich cultural, recreational, and culinary experiences surrounding each of the 17 stops," according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

Trains are fully accessible to those with disabilities and have restrooms, work-station seating and free Wi-Fi.

Tickets are available via the SunRail Mobile app or at ticket vending machines on station platforms.

Before the station opens, you can tour parked trains and learn about the service from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 27 and Saturday, Aug. 3 at the DeLand SunRail station.
