Record-tying heat wave hits Las Vegas valley

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) –The Las Vegas valley has seen temperatures soaring above 100 degrees with Las Vegas tying its daily record high temperature on Saturday.

On July 6, at around 3:30 p.m. Las Vegas tied its record of 115 degrees, which was originally set in 1989, and last seen in 2007, according to the National Weather Service.

The valley is under excessive heat warnings and according to the National Weather Service, these warnings are anticipated to continue until Monday, July 8. There are predictions that Las Vegas could surpass its previous record high of 117 degrees Fahrenheit, last recorded in 2021 on Monday, July 8.

Areas in California and Arizona also hit their all-time highest temperature record on Saturday including:

  • Death Valley, California reached 128 degrees (previous record of 127 degrees was set in 2007)

  • Kingman, Arizona reached 109 degrees (previous record of 108 degrees was set in 2017)

  • Bishop, California reached 108 degrees (previous record of 105 degrees was set in 2021)

  • Barstow, California reached 117 degrees  (previous record of 115 degrees was set in 2007)
