Red Cross issues critical call for blood and platelet donors

The Red Cross remains in dire need of donors.

Blood is in high demand as hospitals and staff work around-the-clock to save lives this summer, Red Cross officials said. When fewer people answer the call to donate, the blood supply can quickly shrink.

These are the 12 blood drives currently scheduled in Richland County, including several during the Richland County Fair:

  • Aug. 1, 2 - 8 p.m., Mohican Wood Products, 20460 Nunda, Butler

  • Aug. 6, noon - 6 p.m., Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 48 Church St., Bellville

  • Aug. 6, noon - 6 p.m., Richland County Fairgrounds, 750 North Home Road, Mansfield

  • Aug. 7, noon - 6 p.m., Ontario Center/Richland Mall RSMO, 2209 Richland Mall, Ontario

  • Aug. 7, noon - 6 p.m., Richland County Fairgrounds, 750 North Home Road, Mansfield

  • Aug. 8, noon - 6 p.m., Richland County Fairgrounds, 750 North Home Road, Mansfield

  • Aug. 8, noon - 6 p.m., Resurrection Parish, 2600 Lexington Ave., Lexington

  • Aug. 14, noon - 6 p.m., Lucas Community Center, 252 W. Main St., Lucas

  • Aug. 14, noon - 6 p.m., Ontario Center/Richland Mall RSMO, 2209 Richland Mall, Ontario

  • Aug. 14, 1 p.m. - 6 p.m., Planktown Country Market, 1921 Free Road, Shiloh

  • Aug. 15, 2 p.m. - 7 p.m., American Legion Hall, 77 Bell St., Bellville

  • Aug. 15, noon - 6 p.m., Hope Lutheran Church, 2010 Park Avenue West, Mansfield

Book a time to give blood or platelets by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS or by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App.

Those who donate Aug. 1-31 will get a $20 Amazon.com gift card by email.
