Redding man arrested after ATV he was driving crashed, injuring two children
A Redding man was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment and driving under the influence after the ATV he was driving rolled over and injured two children Thursday night, police said.
Reports of a Polaris RZR crashing in the area of Meadowbrook Drive and Kimberly Drive came in to police around 9:20 p.m., police said. The vehicle was laying on its side.
After the crash, a child was seen in the roadway after being ejected from the ATV, police said.
Before police arrived, the driver of the Polaris RZR, Arturo Arellano-Machado, 41, of Redding, was seen pushing the vehicle upright and then driving away with a 3-year-old and 6-year-old child inside, investigators said.
Officers stopped Arellano-Machado at the intersection of El Camino Drive and Meadowbrook Drive.
A news release posted on the Redding Police Department Facebook page said the children had abrasions and both suffered possible concussions.
Police said Arellano-Machado was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.
