Reenactors, cannons bring Pea Ridge National Military Park to life

PEA RIDGE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — On July 20, Civil War re-enactors brought the battlefield to life at Pea Ridge National Military Park.

Two cannons from the era were fired, while re-enactors demonstrated the weapons that would be used during combat.

Arkansas was not always ‘the Natural State’, here were the state’s other nicknames

“We’re able to show and demonstrate the artillery that was used, the loudness of it, the heat of it, the fact of it being a part of a battle and knowing that folks were out here doing that,” Travis Cott, the park’s chief of interpretation and education said.

During the actual battle in 1862, six cannons were firing, compared to the two used in the July 20 demonstration, according to Cott.
